This is the 3rd and final set of variations. This set has a rusted/weathered model, a sawed -off model and a double barrel model. All models are under 4k tris with 1024 diffuse, spec and normal maps. These variations didn't take to long, although the sawed off and the double barrel required a quite a bit of re-working the model, uvs and texture but overall the shotguns were the easiest of the 3 models.

Also got max 2011 just as I started on these and used it to complete them. Some really nice new features with the version release but many old broken functionality has returned. Going to spend a good portion of today playing with all the new features and going to have to rework my work-flow a bit to accommodate new tools.

Here is the second group of variations. This group has 2 sport models, blue and orange, and there is one rusted and weathered one as well. I also made a bow sight for the orange sport model, which is a separate model and texture.

3030 Variations

Here's the 3030 variation. The first set of 3 variations. This set has a rusted and weathered version, a snub nose version and a 45/70 with scope version.
The snub nose and the rusted version were pretty simple to do, some minor model changes and repaint of the texture. The 45/70 with scope took a bit longer though as parts of the rifle had to be reworked, re-uv'ed and re-painted, plus the scope is a separate and new model.

Well, Its been a while since I did my last post. Been busy finishing up this round of models. The shotgun here is the last of the 3 main weapons for this group of models. After this one I have to create 3 variations of each main model.

A compound bow. This model was pretty easy to model but really difficult to UV and get a nice normal map for. The holes in the cams and the stock body made this one a particular challenge to complete. Final model has 3788 polys and has a 1024x1024 map with a diffuse, normal and specular map.

Full game model complete. Final model is only 3,546 polys and has a 1024x1024 Diffuse, Specular and normal maps.
This model will be seen in game very soon. Hooray for that :) Its always great to actually see my work in a game. Once the game is made public I will be sure to make a post about it.

Overall I am very happy with the way this model came out. It took me about a day and half more then I wanted to spend on it but still completed it in about 5 days. I learned my lessons from doing previous normal mapped models and applied them to this one which really made the normal map process much easier this time around.
Previous normal map endeavors had been very frustrating and filled with problems and smoothing errors because I had built the models wrong. Now that I have successfully completed the full process with little or no problems I feel that I am ready to tackle bigger next-gen game projects.
Also this marks a pretty successful start with a new client which is great. Hopefully lots more work like this to come in the near future.

Well, project blizzard is on hold for the time being. Finally got some real work in. Doing some environment and weapon models for a FPS game being done by ARB studios.
First item is a winchester style 30/30 lever action rifle. High poly and low poly models are done. Working on UVs now and then on to the normal map bake.
